New Siemens

In May 2019, Siemens announced the sale of its Gas and Power Business Area, consisting of conventional power generation and transmission as well as oil and gas. In recent years, Siemens has already transferred several technology areas to independent units or companies. These include medical technology (Healthineers), wind energy (Gamesa) and rail systems (Mobility). Together with the Gas and Power Division, some of Siemens’ historic core businesses will be outsourced and Siemens’ technology portfolio will change significantly.

We took the opportunity to trace these developments from a technological perspective and have developed a technology profile called “New Siemens. New Siemens’ focus is on digital and industrial activities, complemented by mobility and energy aspects – in line with the new strategy. Energy transformation is currently in question. It is not yet clear from the announcements whether this area is also part of the outsourcing. If not, it would be the largest technology area in the new Siemens.
